The body of a man was found near the sports field in Road Reserve informal settlement in Reiger Park, Boksburg on July 31 with police saying killings are common in the area.

According to the Reiger Park spokesperson, Constable Zanele Motaung, the police were notified around 08:45 by a passer-by about the body.

“The police found a man with stab wounds on the upper body. It is believed that the dead man fought another man who was with his girlfriend the day before he was found killed.

“There are a lot of killings in Reiger Park and neighbouring areas, but we cannot easily assume that there is a serial killer on the loose. From our investigations, most of the killings are a result of domestic violence that happens to people who are going or coming from taverns.

“Domestic violence mostly happens because of illegal shebeens. We have closed several shebeens in our ongoing high-density operations. Through operations, we are also in the process of stopping these killings and other criminal activities happening around our area,” says Motaung.

“A murder case has been opened at the Reiger Park police station for this recent murder and there are ongoing investigations,” she says.

“We need the community of the areas that we serve to work with us, so we can combat crime,” says Motaung.
