Hijackers, who succeeded in making their target believe they are traffic officers, robbed a courier bakkie of its content after overpowering the driver and driving off with him in the back of the vehicle.

Carletonville police say the incident happened around 10:10 on 27 July.

The victim, an employee of a courier company, says he was driving his bakkie on the R500 through Carletonville when he saw an unmarked white Ford Figo parked next to the four-way crossing at Agnew Road.

Two men dressed as traffic officers in brown uniforms and reflector jackets got out of the car and indicated that he had to stop.

They asked the driver for his licence but suddenly lurched forward and grabbed him and forced him back into the bakkie. The hijackers took his cell phone and drove to the Carletonville graveyard with him.

Once there, they loaded the valuables from the back of the bakkie into the Figo. They then pushed the driver into the back of the bakkie and sped off.

“Never stop for anyone in an unmarked vehicle, no matter what uniforms they are wearing. Rather drive to the nearest police station or filling station,” the police advised.
