Man identifying as ‘Jesus reborn’ drowns in Loskop Dam

Attempts to save his life were unsuccessful.

A seemingly confused man, who said his name was ‘Jesus reborn’, ignored the pleas of police and security guards and walked into the Loskop Dam where he drowned.

Security guards were called to a scene near the Loskop Dam wall, where they found a dazed man ripping out the seats and smashing the windows of his VW Golf.

The incident occurred near the Loskop Dam wall at about 07:30 today.

Leonardus van Vreden and his colleague Herman Malan from Pentagon Security were the first respondents on the scene.

They found the disoriented man, who identified himself as ‘Jesus reborn’ frantically ripping out the seats of his car and smashing the windows before setting the car alight.

As Van Vreden and Malan extinguished the fire, the man ran into the bushes.

Later the police and guards saw him walking into the dam. They tried to persuade the man not to go into the water, but the man walked deeper into the dam and drowned, despite attempts to save his life.

The police are currently on the scene and the forensic pathologists will transport the man’s body to the state mortuary.
