Former KZN resident critical after freak jet ski accident in US
Former Empangeni resident Tyron Motzouris is fighting for his life after another racer crashed into him at full speed.
A freak accident at the world jet ski championships in Arizona, US, over the weekend has left a former KZN resident in critical condition.
Pro jet ski racer Tyron Motzouris, who hails from Empangeni, had reportedly fallen off his jet ski during the race, signalling with hand gestures what had happened – a normal procedure.
Another racer, however, reportedly did not see Motzouris and tragically hit him at full speed.

Tyron, a married father of two, was with his brother and best friend Dustin Motzouris at the International Jet Sports Boating Association Finals at Lake Havasu over the weekend.
In an emotional Facebook post on Sunday, Dustin described the event as ‘probably the worst day of my life’ and called on loved ones and friends to pray for his brother’s recovery.
“My brother, my best friend and one of the best humans I know was severely injured while racing and is fighting for his life. He has drifted across the line a few times already today but has kept fighting.
“He has a lot to live for and a beautiful young family that needs him. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who saved him in the water, and to the doctors who performed surgery.
“We are deep in this battle and if I ever needed prayers for anyone in life, this is the time. Tyron, you [must] fight, you [must] fight because we love you and need you.”
In an updated Facebook post this morning, Dustin’s wife Mandy Motzouris said Tyron continued to fight in hospital.
“Please continue to pray. Dustin is by his side 24/7. We have family flying in from overseas. Dustin and Tyron have gone through hell together a few times and we pray they will continue to do what they do and get through this.
“Please keep my sister-in-law Dominique and her two baby girls in your prayers.”
Both brothers and their families reside in Phoenix, Arizona.
