Watch: Robbery suspects arrested following chase by Vereeniging police
CCTV video footage captured the moment a gang of suspected robbers made a run for it after their vehicle lost control and crashed with police in hot pursuit.
Two suspected house robbers were arrested after police acted on information about a suspicious vehicle and gave chase. The fleeing suspects lost control of their vehicle and crashed it through a wall in Vereeniging.
Police spokesperson Captain Fikile Funda says they received intelligence about a silver Audi that was used in committing various house robberies in Fochville, Sasolburg and Vanderbijlpark.
Funda says, “At about 15:15 our members who were on patrol spotted the vehicle fitting the description with three occupants inside.
Police followed the vehicle and ordered the driver to stop.
“The driver fled and subsequently lost control of the car and drove into a wall on the corner of Devilliers and Union street.
“Three suspects emerged from the Audi and ran into different directions with one yielding a firearm at police.”
Funda says police arrested two suspects and found a revolver, locked safe and other household appliances inside the Audi.
He says the suspects face charges of pointing of a firearm, unlawfull possession of a firearm and possession of suspected stolen goods.
“Additional charges will be added from Sasolburg, Vanderbijlpark and Fochville as soon as statements are received.”
Funda told the Sedibeng Ster that the success was achieved in conjunction with various stakeholders including private security, community patrollers and tracking companies.
The acting station commander Colonel Fanie Radebe commended Sergeant Sammy Moloi and Warrant Pietrus Mazibuko for their excellent execution.
