Listen: Day 2 proceedings laid out after breakfast
Only qualified members will be eligible to vote at the ANC’s 55th National Conference, according to national spokesperson Pule Mabe.

The second day of the ANC’s 55th National Conference started with a business breakfast that was headed by Finance Minister Enoch Gondongwane.
Outgoing ANC national spokesperson Pule Mabe thanked those who attended the meeting, and briefed the media about the proceedings of the conference and that all the reports will be done.
“Reports from closed session three and four will be presented to the delegates; these include financial, organisational and credentials reports.
“The credentials assist the organisation to qualify those who will take part in the sessions. They need to be qualified and therefore accredited.
“We have a new agile membership system. This is to avoid, identify and isolate any form of infiltration, so that the rightful delegate can participate in voting. That’s why you need to be a member first.
“New members undergo a probation period of three months and then there is a window period, if you didn’t renew your membership, it lapses. These are some of the mechanisms we use to determine that you are the member of the organisation,” he said.
When asked about the delays which may hinder the progress of the conference, Mabe emphasised that the party would conclude the business of the conference.
“We are doing everything in our power to make sure it [the conference] must continue as planned,” he said.
He added that the party had put a proposal forward for the media to have time with the delegates from different provinces.
