Security guard fatally shot in Durban
The circumstances surrounding the death of an on-duty guard are being investigated by police.
A security guard was attacked and shot multiple times in Berea in KZN this morning, while on shift.
The incident occurred on the corner of Brickfield Road and the Jan Smuts Highway.
According to ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson, just after 04:00, ALS Paramedics responded to the scene.
“Paramedics arrived to find SAPS at the scene. The security officer, believed to be in his 30s, had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was in a critical condition, and Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilise the man before rushing him through to a nearby hospital for the urgent care that he required,” says Jamieson.
Unfortunately, a short while after arriving at the hospital, he went into a state of cardiac arrest and passed away due to his injuries.
“At this stage, the events leading up to the shooting are unknown, however, SAPS were on scene and will be investigating further,” says Jamieson.
