Man hands himself over to police after Ermelo shooting

Police have a break in their investigation into a brazen daylight shooting at a petrol station that shocked the nation after graphic footage was circulated on social media.

The suspect in the murder of Smangaliso Innocent Nkosi (25), which took place on Sunday at a filling station in Ermelo in Mpumalanga, has handed himself over to police.

According to Captain Carla Prinsloo, the spokesperson for Ermelo police, the man and his lawyer went to the police station earlier today.

Highvelder previously reported that Nkosi was shot and killed in a cold-blooded attack that was caught on CCTV.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said yesterday that the victim and his friends were refuelling their vehicles when a man, known to the group, approached them.

CCTV footage shows that, without warning, the man walked up to Nkosi and fired a shot at his head. After Nkosi collapsed, the man can be seen firing several more shots at him. He then calmly looked around and collected several spent cartridges from the scene, before he walked out of the camera’s range.

The shooting occurred between 01:00 and 02:00.

It is unclear what transpired before the victim was shot.
