Police in Mpumalanga are urging the public to assist them in locating the mother of a baby girl who was was dumped on a railway line in Belfast.

The little girl was saved last week Thursday when her cries was heard inside a maize meal bag.

Security personnel were patrolling the railway line in Dalmanuta, when they heard a baby crying.

Police and paramedics were summoned to the scene where the child was stabilised and referred to a medical facility for further attention.

Years ago, a similar abandonment took place in Middelburg where a pedestrian heard catlike calls next to the railway line close to the Banquet Hall.

She was rescued and has since been adopted, currently residing in America with her adopted parents.
