Liezel de Jager murder case: Court resumes with husband in the dock

A man accused of murdering his wife more than two years ago was back in court today.

Werner de Jager, who is accused of murdering his wife Reverend Liezel de Jager at their Amanzimtoti home, was back in court today after spending Christmas in jail.

Lizel, an NG Kerk-Suidkus pastor, was strangled to death at her home in October 2021.

After the investigation dragged on for over two years, De Jager was arrested in Bloemfontein in November last year.

During his second court appearance on December 7, the matter was postponed to allow for other aspects of the investigation to be finalised.

South Coast Sun was reporting live from the Amanzimtoti Magistrate’s Court, where a power failure brought proceedings to a halt earlier today.

Court proceedings have now resumed.
