Suspected criminals killed in shoot-outs with KZN police
Two people believed to have been involved in the killing of three people and the attempted murder of seven others were shot dead after opening fire on police.
Inanda in KZN saw more gun battles between suspected criminals and police early this morning, leaving two suspects dead.
KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda says police had operationalised intelligence about the whereabouts of two people who were suspected to have been involved in the killing of three people and the attempted murder of seven others in Newlands last Thursday.
Simultaneous operations at Eskebheni and Emaplazini in Inanda saw the police having to take cover as suspects at both scenes opened fire. Police returned fire, sparking a shoot-out, says Netshiunda.
Two suspects, aged 34 and 39, sustained fatal gunshot wounds – one at each scene, adds Netshiunda.
He says two pistols, a shotgun and 94 rounds of ammunition were found in the suspects’ possession.
6 suspected hijackers killed
In an unrelated incident in the same area yesterday morning, six suspected hijackers were shot and killed when they opened fire on Durban police.
Three others were arrested.
