Mooi River kidnapping case: Suspect rearrested

One of the two suspects who were previously released due to insufficient evidence, is set to appear in court tomorrow.

A suspect who was arrested and released in connection with the kidnapping of elderly Mooi River couple Tony (73) and Jill (78) Dinnis has been rearrested.

The 22-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Mooi River Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.

The couple went missing from a smallholding they rented in Middelrus, Mooi River, in August last year.

The owner of the farm visited the couple at the small holding, however, the Dinisses were not there and the cottage was found locked.

The couple’s vehicle was still in the yard. Their five dogs and three cats were locked in separate rooms.

Jill’s walking stick was still in the house which raised suspicions as she couldn’t walk without the aid for long periods of time.

In September last year, hopes of a breakthrough in the case were dashed when two suspects were arrested but were later released due to insufficient evidence.

Residents have been praying for their safety since the news broke of them being missing.
