Pretoria DJ gunned down in Soshanguve
Peter Mashata and his friend were returning from an event when they were shot just after 01:00 today.
Pretoria MC and DJ Peter Mashata, also known as ‘Msindo’ or ‘The Noise Maker’ passed away after a shooting incident in Soshanguve where his friend was injured in the early morning hours of today. The men were driving home from an event where he performed when an unknown shooter opened fire on them.
Mashata died after a shooting incident in Soshanguve Block GG, north of Pretoria in the early hours of Sunday while returning from an event at Epozini Lifestyle in Soshanguve.
It is alleged that Mashata and a friend (aged 46 and 45) were driving near the Tshwane University of Technology’s Soshanguve campus at around 01:00 when a started shooting at them.
Tshwane police spokesperson Warrant Officer Duane Lightfoot said “The suspect fled the scene. The one victim, by the name of Peter Mashata, was transported to a medical facility. He passed away at Akasia Hospital.”
“The other victim was shot and injured. “
The motive for the shooting was unknown to the police at this stage.
Gauteng Police spokesperson Colonel Noxolo Khweza said police are investigating murder and attempted murder cases.
Close relative Gugulethu Ngobeni confirmed the passing of Mashata, saying “It is with greatness and sorrow that we inform you of the ultimate passing of our beloved son, uncle, brother, and colleague.”
Ngobeni said a family representative will keep residents posted on details of both the memorial and funeral services during the week.
Ngobeni added, “The family is appreciative of all messages of support and condolences that have started to flow in and humbly request that they be given the space and time to deal with the trauma.”
