Double tragedy hits Gauteng family: Mom dies due to ‘freak accident’ month after son

Jackie Bowie, whose son Kaiden died after a rugby match in March, passed away this week due to injuries she sustained in an accident.

The Bowie family from Gauteng is reeling from a second devastating loss in just two months.

Jacky Bowie, mother of late teen Kaiden Bowie, passed away on April 24 due to injuries sustained in what was described as a “freak accident”.

The loss of Jacky follows the tragic death of her son Kaiden, aged 16, on March 5 after a rugby fixture at Hoërskool Die Anker in Brakpan.

The family now has to grapple with the loss of both mother and son. The family confirmed that Jacky was injured in an accident on April 20.

They told Bedfordview and Edenvale News that her husband Brendon is still “in the processing stages of all that has taken place”.

Survived by Brendon and daughter Tatum, Jacky’s passing adds another layer of grief to a community already mourning the loss of Kaiden.

The school rugby and Jeppe communities have been deeply affected, with tribute gestures and rugby matches held in memory of Kaiden since the season began.

Westville Boys’ High School’s rugby players presented a jersey bearing the initials “KB” to commemorate Kaiden’s memory to Jeppe players when the two schools met on the field on April 13.

The gesture represented the impact Kaiden’s untimely death has had on those around him.
