Reports emerged early this morning that the planned national shutdown, called for by All Truck Drivers Forum and Allied South Africa (ATDF ASA) was called off at the eleventh hour.

This is according to SA Trucker, and confirmed by ATDF ASA regional secretary Sifiso Nyathi.

According to reports, the planned national shutdown was temporarily halted following a meeting with relevant stakeholders, yesterday.

The forum said it would closely monitor the implementation plan agreed upon in the visual meeting.

SA Trucker reported on X that the forum urged all its members to refrain from any illegal activity, ‘and expressed hope that government departments would uphold their commitment to intensify inspections and enforcement of compliance regulations’.

Details will be made available once more information comes to light.

The Witness reports ATDF ASA secretary general Gugu Sokhela told the publication that their leadership urged all members to refrain from any illegal actions and expressed hope that government departments would uphold their commitment.

“We urge all our members to distance themselves from any form of illegal action.”

Law enforcement agencies had been on high alert to prevent any lawlessness during the shutdown.
