Watch: Wheel thieves at work in Middelburg caught on camera
Thieves who used paving bricks to raise a car off the ground made off with wheels valued at R30 000.
The syndicate responsible for numerous wheel thefts in Middelburg struck again earlier this morning, but this time they were caught on CCTV.
According to Ruhan Potgieter, a group of suspects descended on his home in Hertzog Street, Dennesig, at roughly 02:00 this morning, leaving an estimated R30 000 damage in their wake.
Potgieter believes there were three suspects and a getaway vehicle involved in the theft of his work vehicle’s wheels.
“We can see two suspects in the yard, and I believe there was another suspect outside our yard. I am also convinced that a vehicle was waiting for them.”

Potgieter was woken up by his barking dog at 03:10 and startled the thieves, who made off with three wheels, leaving the fourth behind. “They were brand new tyres, with less than 8 000km on them.”
As seen on the CCTV footage, the two suspects removed paving bricks from the carport to lift the vehicle.
“Titon Security responded to our alarm within four minutes, but the thieves had managed to get away with three of the wheels.”
