Two brothers were seriously injured during a vicious attack, allegedly by a gang of thugs who targeted a smallholding in the Keerom area of the N11 heading to Loskop Dam.

The attack occurred at 23:30 yesterday.

According to sources familiar with the incident, the brothers, who live on the property belonging to a local businessman, were asleep when they were attacked by a group of 11 assailants.

The property is still under development and the brothers were appointed as caretakers during the construction phase.

It is reported that they were asleep when they heard a noise and saw two men approaching their room from outside.

Middelburg Observer’s sources say one of the brothers was ordered to follow the attackers outside, where he was allegedly beaten with a shovel. While he was being beaten, he heard his brother being severely assaulted inside the room.

The gang is said to have fled with nine solar panels, a cellphone belonging to one of the brothers, and an undisclosed amount of cash.

One of the brothers was rushed to a Pretoria hospital due to the severity of his injuries.

No arrests have been made.
