Two bodies, one with gunshot wounds and the other floating in a trench, were discovered in Thembisa this week.

Divers from the Ekurhuleni Water Policing and Diving Services recovered the bodies on Tuesday and Thursday.

On Tuesday, at around midday, divers were deployed to the Kaalspruit River in Ivory Park where a body of a man with gunshot wounds was recovered from the river.

On Wednesday night officers were called out to Ngwasheng Street in Hospital View, where the body of an unknown man was floating in contaminated water at the bottom of a deep trench.

“Due to the high risk of the steep sides collapsing and working in the dark, the recovery was called off until Thursday,” said Rapid Response Services spokesperson Warrant Officer Grant Giblin.

Officers were onsite first thing Thursday morning. With the assistance from K9 Search and Rescue they walked downstream to gain access into the bed of the trench.

“Officers then walked back upstream to recover the body and carried the victim out on a Stokes Basket (stretcher),” said Giblin.

He added that in both incidents, the bodies were handed to the detectives and the Local Criminal Record Centre members on scene for further investigation.
