4 suspected illegal miners to appear in Pongola court

Police in KZN received intelligence about illicit mining activities at a mine in Ntumbane, which lead to four arrests.

Police officers in KZN yesterday arrested four suspects who were found in possession of gold-bearing material, worth over R3m, at a mine in Ntumbane, Pongola.

Police received and acted upon intelligence about illicit mining activities in the area and upon arrival at the scene, the four suspected illegal miners were caught in the act of processing gold.

They were also found with mining equipment and explosives.

The suspects, who are aged between 27 and 40 years old, are due to appear in the Pongola Magistrate’s Court today. – SAnews.gov.za
