Watch: Car crashes into truck on R40 in Mbombela, 2 killed

An accident that occurred early this morning is being investigated, but it is suspected that the car’s driver was speeding.

Two occupants of a Mercedes-Benz died when they crashed into an articulated truck in Riverside in Mbombela at about 04:14 this morning.

The crash took place at the R40 and R37 intersection.

The driver and passenger passed away.

A video of the accident circulated on various social media platforms. In it, it can be seen how the Mercedes-Benz coming from the Mbombela CBD’s direction T-boned the truck as it was turning onto the R37.

According to the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison’s spokesperson, Moeti Mmusi, the crash is being investigated, however, it is suspected the car’s driver was speeding.

He advised motorists to follow the road rules, especially this festive season.

“Motorists should be wary of fatigue and how it affects their quality of driving. Do not speed to get to your destination, but rather take breaks along the drive,” he says.
