Cop arrested after girlfriend’s murder in Eldorado Park still in hospital

A police officer who allegedly shot his girlfriend and then himself is due to appear in court next week.

The court case against a 42-year-old Eldorado Park police officer, accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend Chesnay Patricia Keppler (22) with his service pistol, has been postponed to January 6.

The case was postponed as the accused could not appear in the Protea Magistrate’s Court on Monday as he is still in hospital.

According to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate, the officer is in hospital, under police guard, after trying to commit suicide when he was arrested after his girlfriend was murdered.

The shooting occurred at the victim’s house in Eldorado Park on Boxing Day, following a domestic dispute.

The officer allegedly fired several shots through the window, killing his girlfriend.

He then fled the scene but was later apprehended by authorities.
