Limpopo woman attacked with hammer: Security guard in court

Police arrested a security guard after his wife was assaulted with a hammer after a domestic dispute over a hidden firearm.

A security guard is expected to appear in the Malamulele Magistrate’s Court today after he was arrested by Limpopo police in connection with the assault of his wife who was attacked with a hammer.

According to Polokwane Review, the man was arrested on Sunday morning following the incident at their home in Mavandla Village.

Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Stephen Thakeng says the victim was assaulted, allegedly by her husband, after an argument in which he reportedly demanded his firearm.

“The wife allegedly hid the firearm in their house as the couple were regularly having heated arguments. The suspect assaulted his wife with a hammer and the victim reported the incident to the police and handed the said firearm in,” Thakeng adds.

A case was opened, and the suspect was arrested for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and the possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, condemned the incident and applauded the victim for being brave enough to report a domestic violence case, which led to the seizure of an unlicensed firearm.
