Watch: Mother and father killed in KZN mudslide

A mudslide in KwaMakhuta claimed two lives, with emergency teams responding to widespread damage after heavy rain and flooding.

Tragedy struck KwaMakhuta, south-west of Durban, this morning when a mudslide left a mother and father dead.

According to Rising Sun, Garrith Jamieson of ALS Paramedics confirmed the incident, highlighting that the area had been hit by torrential downpours in the past 24 hours.

There are several reports of damaged infrastructure, with emergency services and paramedics working to provide medical assistance.

According to Jamieson, the children in the home managed to escape, but their parents lost their lives.

Heavy rain and inclement weather have caused havoc in various parts of Durban since last night, with several roads flooded this morning as motorists commuted to work.

The Witness reports that in a second incident nearby, one person is believed to be trapped after a landslide destroyed a house. The fire department and ALS Paramedics were on the scene attempting to free the individual.

These incidents follow an orange level 5 weather warning issued by the South African Weather Service yesterday, warning of heavy rain, widespread showers, and thundershowers in parts of KZN.
