KZN community saves newborn dumped in pit toilet
A newborn baby boy was rescued from a pit latrine in Sundumbili, after community members heard his cries and called for help.
Community members in Sundumbili, KZN, rescued a baby boy after hearing him crying in a pit latrine yesterday morning.
According to The North Coast Courier, the reportedly newborn baby had been dumped earlier in the morning and likely would have died were it not for the intervention of passers-by.
Jabu, a member of the Sundumbili community, inland of Mandeni, heard the cries when she walked past the pit latrine and called for help.
With other community members, she was able to recover the boy and keep him safe until emergency services arrived.
“IPSS Medical Rescue paramedics assessed the baby boy, who was in relatively good health,” says IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson Samantha Meyrick.
“He has been transported to Sundumbili Clinic for further care.”
