Limpopo police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe says the swift response from dedicated multi-disciplinary teams prevented potential harm to a kidnapped family of four, who were rescued in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Polokwane Review reports that, according to the Limpopo police, a case of kidnapping was reported in Mareseleng village in the Burgersfort policing area after the family – a man, his wife and two minor children – were tied up and forced into their family vehicle.

“Preliminary investigations suggest three armed suspects, dressed in balaclavas, forcibly entered the victims’ residence and found the family sleeping in the same bedroom. They threatened the victims, tied them up and kidnapped them, fleeing the scene in the victim’s VW Polo hatchback,” provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says.

Prompt response and collaboration with a car tracking company led to the rescue of the family at around 06:00 on a farm in the Modjadjiskloof policing area.

They were unharmed.

Hadebe commends the teams, adding that their swift response disrupted the kidnappers’ plans.

“Police investigations continue and we urge anyone with relevant information to assist in apprehending the suspects. The public are advised to contact the investigating officer, Colonel Saleem Wahab, on 082 319 9291 or call the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111. Alternatively, information can be provided via the MySAPS app or by visiting the nearest police station,” Ledwaba adds.
