Limpopo man sentenced to 2 life terms for raping child

A man who lured three children to his home, where he sexually assaulted them, forced them to watch pornography and raped one of them, will spend life behind bars.

The Nkowankowa Regional Court in Limpopo yesterday convicted and sentenced Rady Bayiza Makhubele (46) to two terms of life imprisonment for two counts of rape, five years for assault, and three years for the exposure or display of, or causing exposure or display of, child pornography or pornography to children.

Letaba Herald reports that Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says the court heard that in September 2018, Makhubele lured three children to his home, where he sexually assaulted them, forced them to watch pornography and raped one of them.

The same child was raped again the following day when they all returned to Makhubele’s home.

The matter was only reported to the police in October 2018, by the victim’s mother.

The child was taken to the nearest hospital for medical attention, where the medical team confirmed sexual assault and rape.

The case was transferred to the Tzaneen Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit and assigned to Sergeant Sharon Phumuzo Mabongo, who successfully located and arrested Makhubele in the following weeks.

“At the time, it was also noted that the accused was on parole for another rape case that was committed in Gauteng,” says Ledwaba.

He was sentenced as follows:

  • Count 1: Rape – life imprisonment
  • Count 2: Rape – life imprisonment
  • Count 3: Exposure or display of, or causing exposure or display of, child pornography or pornography to children (three years imprisonment)
  • Count 4: Sexual assault (five years imprisonment).
