Watch: Man clings to speeding SUV bonnet in Mbombela traffic drama

A video shows a man clinging to a Toyota SUV’s bonnet in Mbombela traffic, holding on as the driver speeds up to almost 80km/h.

A video shared on Facebook by Lizelle Swart on Monday, showing a man clinging onto a Toyota SUV’s bonnet during rush-hour traffic, is going viral with around 60 000 views.

Lowvelder reports that while in traffic, Swart saw the man arguing with the driver while she was in her vehicle leaving The Crossing Shopping Centre in Mbombela. She started recording the incident, thinking it was a hijacking.

The driver of the Toyota started to pull away and the man climbed onto the bonnet while shouting something in a language she did not understand. The man held on as the driver accelerated to close to 80km/h.

Swart, who was on her way to pick up her son from school, followed the car as the man clung to the vehicle all the way to Absa Square.

Other drivers tried to help, but were afraid of hitting him.
