WATCH: Bonnet surfing from Crossing to ABSA Square

A woman recorded a bizarre traffic altercation in Mbombela.

A video shared on Facebook by Lizelle Swart on Monday, September 8, showing a man clinging onto a Toyota SUV’s bonnet during rush hour traffic is going viral with around 60k views.

While in traffic, Swart saw the man arguing with the driver while she was in her vehicle, leaving The Crossing Shopping Centre, and started recording the incident, thinking it was a hijacking.

The driver of the Toyota started to pull away and the man climbed onto her bonnet, while shouting something in what Lowvelder believes to be Sepedi*. The man held on and the driver accelerated to close to 80km per hour.

Swart, who was on her way to pick up her son from school, then followed the car and the man clung to the vehicle all the way to ABSA square.
