Seven lives were lost and multiple people critically injured in a string of deadly crashes along the N2 in KZN last night.

It was carnage on the N2 last night as emergency services attended to no fewer than four fatal collisions, leaving seven dead and several others with serious to critical injuries.

The accidents all occurred between Chaka’s Rock and Mandeni, Zululand Observer reports.

IPSS Medical Rescue, as well as KwaDukuza Fire Department, Mandeni Fire Department, KZN Emergency Medical Services (KZN EMS), and other private ambulance services responded to the call-outs.

Three of the accidents involved pedestrians, leaving three pedestrians dead.

“In the third collision, the vehicle lost control after striking the pedestrian near Chaka’s Rock, bursting into flames and sadly leaving the driver deceased,” said IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson Samantha Meyrick.

A fourth collision, which occurred near Mandeni, left three people fatally injured.

“Two patients sustained critical injuries, and were stabilised on scene by IPSS advanced life support paramedics.

“A third occupant sustained serious injuries. All patients were transported to various facilities for further care,” said Meyrick.
