KZN father sentenced to life for raping 11-year-old daughter
A child’s victim impact statement revealed lasting physical, emotional and psychological trauma following an attack by her father.
A 35-year-old man has been convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by the eSikhawini Regional Court in KZN for raping his daughter (11) in January.
Zululand Observer reports that the man, who cannot be named for the protection of the victim’s identity, pleaded guilty to charges laid against him.
In his plea, the man said that on January 1, he was with his family, including his biological daughter, at home in the Mtunzini area.
He told the court that he called her to his room and raped her. His sister walked in on them and asked him what was going on.
The victim was crying, and his sister took her away. The police were then called, and the man was arrested.
The victim was taken to the Ngwelezana Thuthuzela Care Centre for support.
In her victim impact statement, the child indicated that she has suffered physical injuries, as well as emotional and psychological damage. She said she is performing poorly at school and is fearful.
Once convicted last week, the man was sentenced to a term of life imprisonment, and the court declared him unfit to possess a firearm.
The court further ordered that his name be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders.
