Woman accused of Midrand stabbing to remain in custody

The Alexandra Magistrate’s Court has postponed the bail application of Ntokozo Mabasa, who is accused of murdering her boyfriend.

The bail application of Ntokozo Mabasa (22), accused of murdering her 31-year-old boyfriend, has been postponed by a week.

Alex News reports Mabasa made a brief appearance in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court today, facing a charge of murder after a fatal stabbing in Midrand on Monday.

State prosecutor Lufuno Maphiri told the court the state opposes Mabasa’s release on bail and requested the matter be postponed to Wednesday.

Although Mabasa’s defence lawyer, Maanea Ramashia, argued that a seven-day delay was too long, Magistrate Reiner Boshoff granted the state’s request.

Mabasa will remain in custody until her next court appearance on October 1 for a formal bail application.

According to Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, officers responded to a complaint about a stabbing in Midrand on Monday. Upon arrival, they found a man with a stab wound to the upper body. He was declared dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation led to the arrest of Mabasa.
