Bystander shot in White River as suspects flee failed CIT heist in Mpumalanga

Police are hunting for a white Toyota Hilux after armed robbers abandoned their cash-in-transit raid when emergency services arrived on the scene after a woman was shot.

A woman was shot during an attempted cash-in-transit (CIT) heist at Playbet in White River, Mpumalanga, yesterday afternoon.

Lowvelder reports that she was stabilised and transported to Themba Provincial Hospital in Kabokweni for further treatment.

She is believed to have been a bystander caught in the crossfire.

Martin Jeffrey of Emer-G-Med confirmed that she sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was in a critical condition.

Jchaan de Beer, a community operational manager from ADT Fidelity White River, confirmed that the suspects tried to rob a Fidelity CIT vehicle that stopped at Playbet. They fled the scene after emergency services arrived.

They were spotted in a white Toyota Hilux and are on the run.

At the time of publishing, police were searching for the vehicle.
