Ekurhuleni warns public after fake X post about Madlanga Commission
The City of Ekurhuleni warns residents to verify information after a digitally altered X post falsely attributed to its official account circulated online.
The City of Ekurhuleni has distanced itself from a fabricated X post circulating online, which was falsely attributed to the City’s official social media account.
Bedfordview Edenvale News reports the fake post, allegedly commenting on matters related to the Madlanga Commission, was not issued by the City and was digitally altered to appear legitimate.
In an official statement, the City clarified that it remains fully committed to co-operating with the Madlanga Commission through proper and formal processes.
“The City remains fully committed to co-operating with the Madlanga Commission and will respond to any matters or allegations directly through the commission’s official processes – not via social media,” the statement read.
Residents are urged to be cautious of misinformation and to verify any communication claiming to be from the City of Ekurhuleni.
Official City communication is only shared through verified platforms:
- X: @City_Ekurhuleni
- Website: www.ekurhuleni.gov.za
The City further appealed to the public to refrain from sharing unverified content that could mislead others or damage public trust.
