A shooting incident on Viola Crescent in Marlboro Gardens, Johannesburg, this morning prompted a swift response from law enforcement and emergency services.

Sandton Chronicle reports that, according to initial reports, multiple shots were fired near the Sandton SPCA. The SPCA has confirmed that the incident does not involve them.

Casualties and vehicles involved

An official said that there are allegedly five people who have been shot. Two are dead and three are receiving medical attention. The shooting appears to also involve multiple vehicles, including a red minibus taxi.

Authorities have urged residents and motorists to avoid the area until the situation has been contained. Viola Crescent remains closed to traffic.
