N2 closed on KZN South Coast after violent protests

The N2 from Marburg to Kokstad remains closed after violent protests, with trucks stopped, drivers assaulted and looting reported.

The N2 from Marburg towards Kokstad on the KZN South Coast remains closed this morning after violent protest action started last night.

South Coast Herald reports the route is blocked at several points in the Murchison area.

Trucks stopped, drivers assaulted

According to reports, trucks were stopped last night, with some drivers assaulted and vehicles reportedly looted.

SAPS, Public Order Police officers and private security teams are on scene working to clear the road, but the situation remains volatile.

Motorists are urged to stay away from the area and use alternative routes until authorities declare the road safe.

It is unclear at this stage why the protest is taking place.
