Corruption allegations: Gauteng High Court judge, son and co-accused granted bail
While a judge, her son and a third accused are out on bail, a church leader remains in custody.
A Gauteng High Court judge, her son and a third accused have been released on bail following their appearance in the Pretoria Serious Commercial Crimes Court today.
The Witness reports that Judge Portia Phahlane, her son Kagiso Phahlane, International Pentecostal Holiness Church (IPHC) leader Michael Sandlana and Vusi Ndala were arrested yesterday and returned to court today on charges of corruption, fraud and money laundering.
The charges relate to accusations of corruption involving a case over the IPHC’s leadership dispute, which Phahlane had overseen.
According to the allegations, Sandlana allegedly paid R2m to Phahlane in an attempt to secure a favourable ruling.
Today, the court granted bail to Phahlane, her son and Ndala.
Sandlana was denied bail and remains in custody.
