An elderly man is in custody for the murder of a young father in an alleged dispute over water in Mpumalanga.

The case against a senior citizen, who allegedly shot and killed a 33-year-old father from Eloff on Sunday, has been postponed to February 17.

The Delmas Magistrate’s Court was packed yesterday when Adriaan van Tonder (70) appeared in court for the first time after his arrest following the death of Calvin Mothoa in an apparent dispute over water, reports Ridge Times.

Van Tonder is facing a charge of murder.

He remains in police custody until his next court appearance when he will apply for bail.

Van Tonder is turning 71-years-old on February 24.
