Krugersdorp lawyer identified as victim in Johannesburg CBD shooting
An athletics club has paid tribute to a 35-year-old litigation superintendent who was gunned down while heading to a CCMA appointment.
Several unverified reports on social media have identified a 35-year-old Krugersdorp lawyer as the woman shot and killed in the Johannesburg CBD yesterday in what appears to have been a targeted attack.
The woman, believed to be Chinette Gallichan, was reportedly followed by two people who opened fire on her before fleeing the scene on foot. She was on her way to an appointment at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) offices when the shooting occurred.
Krugersdorp News reports that a local athletics club posted a tribute on Facebook, stating: “Gone way too soon, champ. Rest softly, Chinette. We will miss you dearly.”
Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko says a case of murder has been opened.
Gallichan’s LinkedIn profile indicates that she worked as a litigation superintendent for a multinational mining and metals processing group. Information remains limited at this stage.
