Johannesburg CBD shooting: Police say victim was followed
Gauteng police appeal to anyone with information to come forward after a woman, believed to be a lawyer, was killed in broad daylight in the Johannesburg CBD.
A woman who was fatally shot today in the Johannesburg CBD was allegedly followed by her attackers.
The victim (35), who was killed at the corner of Fox and Joubert streets, is believed to be a lawyer who was on her way to a meeting at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration building on Fox Street. This is according to a spokesperson for Vision Tactical, who did not want to be named.
Shooting
“She was fatally shot in full view of the public,” adds the spokesperson.
Tintswalo Sibeko, the spokesperson for Gauteng police, says police received a report about the incident and, on arrival at the scene, found the body of the woman.
“She had sustained gunshot wounds and was declared dead at the scene,” she adds.
Victim followed
Sibeko says preliminary reports indicate that the deceased was allegedly followed by two unknown people who opened fire on her before fleeing the scene on foot.
“Police are investigating a case of murder. The motive for the attack will form part of investigations. No arrests have been made at this stage,” Sibeko adds.
The name of the deceased is yet to be released.
She urged anyone with information that can assist in the investigation to contact their nearest police station or call the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111.
