Security guard violently attacked on Mpumalanga farm
Police have launched a manhunt for eight suspects who assaulted a security guard and fled with stolen aluminium drag lights from a Komatipoort farm.
Security guard Fanuel Tivane (63) is recovering in Shongwe Hospital after he was brutally assaulted on a farm in Komatipoort on Sunday evening (July 5).
Lowvelder reports he was attacked, allegedly by eight suspects. They fled the scene after tying him up inside the farm’s banana packhouse.
According to Field Security assistant manager Riaan van Rhyn, another security guard heard gunshots and realised something was wrong, hid himself and alerted the SAPS and the security company.
“The suspects gained access to the property by using bolt cutters to cut through chains,” he said.
When police and security personnel arrived, they followed what appeared to be drag marks and found Tivane tied up inside the packhouse.
iSecure EMS director Dewald Strydom said Tivane had been attacked from behind and struck on the head with a firearm.
“He lost a significant amount of blood and sustained serious rib fractures on both sides,” Strydom said.
He was stabilised on the scene and transported to hospital.
According to police, Tivane and his colleague reported for duty at about 16:00 that day at gate two of the farm packhouse.
Nonyane-Mpe said preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects fled with aluminium drag lights.
Police are appealing to the public for assistance in locating the suspects.
Members of the public can contact the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Vincent Mashaba, on 082 449 0272. Alternatively, information can be reported anonymously via the Crime Stop number: 08600 10111 or submitted through the MySAPS app.
