Man beaten to death in Durban

Law enforcement officials conducting operations behind a Greyville bowling club discovered the unresponsive body of a resident following a suspected group assault.

Police have launched a murder investigation after a 37-year-old man was beaten to death in Greyville in Durban this morning (July 13), reports Berea Mail.

Ensure Security personnel and eThekwini Law Enforcement officials were conducting operations in the area when they discovered the victim’s body behind the Durban Bowling Club in Greyville Park around 09:30.

Brendan Bubb of Ensure Security said the man was found unresponsive and showed no signs of life. The firm’s command centre immediately dispatched the South African Police Service and ambulance services to the scene. The area was subsequently cordoned off to preserve the integrity of the scene before being formally handed over to the police.

While initial reports suggested the victim had suffered severe injuries to his head and chest, KZN police spokesperson Sergeant Thenjiswa Ngcobo confirmed that a formal homicide inquiry is underway.

“Police in Durban Central have opened a murder case following an incident in which a man was allegedly beaten by a group of unknown men. He succumbed to his injuries. The motive for the killing is unknown,” said Ngcobo.
