5 armed men rob devotees at KZN temple

Police have launched an investigation after worshippers at a Merebank temple were robbed during a prayer.

Five armed suspects held up devotees at a temple in Merebank on Saturday night (August 15).

The incident happened while the devotees were praying at the venue, reports Southlands Sun.

According to PT Alarms spokesperson Dhevan Govindasamy, the suspects entered the temple and demanded cellphones and jewellery from the worshippers.

“The suspects, travelling in a white Hyundai i20, made a getaway via the M4 north. They took cellphones and jewellery from the members,” Govindasamy said.

“Our tactical unit and armed response teams were alerted about a robbery at the temple. Teams were dispatched to the scene and were later joined by Wentworth police officers.

At the time of publishing, no arrests had been made.

Govindasamy says Wentworth police are investigating the matter.
