Young woman appears in Limpopo court over businessman’s murder

A second suspect is set to face murder and robbery charges following an investigation by specialist police units into the killing of a local businessman.

A 19-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the murder of 43-year-old businessman Tebogo Mothapo, who was shot dead in Mankweng, a township located about 27 kilometers east of Polokwane in the Limpopo province, in December last year, reports Polokwane Review.

The suspect was arrested on Sunday (August 30) in Mankweng Zone 1 following an intelligence-driven operation by a multidisciplinary team.

The team included members of the Provincial Investigation Unit, Provincial Tracking Team and Capricorn Tracing Team, assisted by Tshimollo Security and Investigations.

The murder

Mothapo was allegedly attacked and shot dead in Mankweng in December 2025.

The latest arrest brings the number of suspects arrested in connection with his killing to two.

First suspect arrested in July

The first suspect, 27-year-old Osama Azad, a naturalised South African of Pakistani origin, was arrested in Ga-Mothapo Tjatjaneng on July 20.

Court appearance

The 19-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court today, Monday, (August 31), facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder, murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

The investigation is continuing.
