Police seek information after 45 sheep stolen near Steynsrus
Free State stock theft investigators appeal for help after missing livestock is found slaughtered along a gravel road.
Police are investigating the theft of 45 sheep valued at R151 000 after the animals disappeared from a farm near Steynsrus, reports Sedibeng Ster.
The 54-year-old farmer, who lives at Somerset Oos Farm, discovered the shortfall while counting livestock at Rietvlei Farm on Saturday (August 29). He had counted 186 sheep on Friday (August 28), but 45 were missing during the count the following day.
Some of the missing sheep were later found sparsely scattered along the Steynsrus-Arlington gravel road with their throats slit.
A case of stock theft was opened at Steynsrus Police Station and is being investigated by the Heilbron Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit.
Police are appealing to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to contact Warrant Officer Henry Greeff on 082 627 7577. Information can also be submitted anonymously via the MySAPS App or by calling Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
