Former attorney Clea Hattingh appeared in the White River Magistrate’s Court yesterday (September 11) facing charges of theft involving deceased estates and trust funds.

Hattingh was released on R5 000 bail in May and face allegations of theft involving more than R2m in estate and trust funds, reports Lowvelder.

The Mpumalanga Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation welcomed the progress in the matter.

Hattingh was previously registered as a legal practitioner with the Legal Practice Council before she was struck from the Roll of Attorneys.

She faces charges of theft from deceased estates and trust funds, alongside contraventions of the Legal Practice Act, including allegations of failing to keep proper accounting records and breaching Legal Practice Rules.

The matter was postponed to October 26 for transfer to the Nelspruit Specialised Commercial Crime Court, where Hattingh is expected to appear next.
