The body of a ninth woman was found in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng, this morning (September 17), just hours after police identified the third victim.  
 
According to a Benoni City Times Facebook post, the body was found in Villa Liza Ext 4, Boksburg.  
 
The post also reported that members of the provincial and Ekurhuleni police were at the scene.  
 
The discovery comes hours after the acting national police commissioner, Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, confirmed the third victim had been identified as Dineo Evelyn Motapane.

The 38-year-old’s body was discovered on the side of the road in KwaThema, Springs, on Tuesday (September 15)  

Dimpane said Motapane’s family positively identified her body at the Springs Mortuary yesterday (September 16). 

According to the family, Motapane was last seen alive on Sunday and at the time her body was discovered, her family had not yet reported her missing. 

Police also identified two other victims; the first was runner Elizabeth ‘Tsontso’ Moselakgomo (38), whose body was found in Rhodesfield, Kempton Park, on September 12.  

The second was Itumeleng Kekana (32), who was reported missing on July 17. Her body was found on Great North Road in Pomona, Kempton Park, on August 3.  

Other victims unidentified 

Five other victims whose bodies were found in Kempton Park, Olifantsfontein and Thembisa remain unidentified. 
 
Dimpane has assured the public that police visibility in the area has been increased and that investigators are working around the clock to solve the crimes. 

Stop spreading misleading information 

According to reports by the Kempton Express, police have also warned the public against sharing misleading information.  
 
This comes after an image of a man wanted in connection with a Dobsonville rape was incorrectly linked online to the investigation into the deaths of nine women in Ekurhuleni since July. 

SAPS has also not released a photograph or identikit of a suspect in connection with these killings. 

Reward 

The police and the DA are offering rewards of R400 000 and R500 000 respectively for information that could assist in the successful prosecution of the person responsible for the murders. 

According to the DA, people who wish to qualify for its reward must formally submit information to SAPS and provide the party with proof that the report was made. 

Police have urged the public to exercise caution before sharing information about the investigation, particularly claims that identify individuals or link unrelated cases.  

Anyone with information that could assist the official investigation is urged to report it to SAPS rather than circulating it on social media.
