Police have confirmed that the body of a woman estimated to be in her early 20s, found in Struisbult, Springs, yesterday (September 27), was recently killed, reports the Springs Advertiser.

The latest discovery brings the number of women’s bodies found in Ekurhuleni over the past two months to 11. Police have not established whether the deaths are linked.

The woman’s body was discovered in an open veld near a railway line in Struisbult at about 12:00. A security company vehicle patrolling the area spotted the body and alerted police.

SAPS members, forensic specialists, detectives, crime intelligence officials and members of the task team investigating the Ekurhuleni cases were deployed to the scene.

Signs of strangulation

Gauteng police commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni addressed the media at the scene.

Mthombeni said the woman was found partially unclothed, with her top pushed up while her trousers remained on.

He said she had an injury to her neck and that there were signs indicating she may have been strangled.

“She was found with her body facing up and there are signs of strangulation,” Mthombeni said.

The woman has not yet been identified.

Second discovery in Springs area

The discovery is the second involving a woman in the Springs area. On September 15, the body of 38-year-old Dineo Evelyn Motapane was found along Moshoeshoe Street in KwaThema. Her family identified her at the Springs Mortuary the following day.

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the latest death.
