Two killed after truck overturns in Joburg (video)

Video footage has emerged showing the aftermath of the accident caused by an overturned truck on Price Rosser and Heidelberg roads, just outside of City Deep in Johannesburg on Tuesday afternoon.

ER24 communications officer Russel Meiring said a truck carrying sand overturned and disposed of its materials on a light weight motor vehicle, killing two, Rosebank Killarney Gazette reported.

Meiring added three people were currently trapped in the car and emergency services were attempting to attend to them.

“A taxi was also involved in the accident, and 10 to 15 passengers have sustained minor injuries. A second truck was affected by this accident,” said Meiring.

Meiring said the truck collided with a minibus before overturning into a Chrysler motor vehicle.

Metro police spokesperson Edna Mamonyane said Metro police were on their way to the scene to attend to the influx of pedestrians and other road users affected by traffic.

Mamonyane told The Citizen a case of culpable homicide would be opened and the road worthiness of the truck would be investigated.

In a separate incident, a truck carrying cement overturned in Midrand, between Johannesburg and Pretoria, in May last year.

Spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said a passenger in the truck suffered minor injuries.

Minnaar added the cause of the accident were unknown.
