Kempton Park West tavern closed for selling too much alcohol

About 496 cases of alcohol were confiscated at a tavern in Kempton Park West, Kempton Express reports.
A provincial task team organised a liquor control operation in Kempton Park and surrounding suburbs.
The task team arrived at Dube’s Tavern on Uitsighelling Street and found the tavern had been breaching its permit regulations. The permit allows for only 60 cases of alcohol to be sold per week.
According to Sergeant Sharon Tsotsotso, spokesperson for Sebenza police, the police were called to the tavern to confiscate 496 cases of different types of alcohol.
“We had trouble with this tavern in the past as well. They would lock us out and open false cases of assault against the police,” said Tsotsotso.
The task team also found the tavern had been playing music illegally, copying it from one device to another and then playing it.
According to the Southern African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO) and the South African Music Performance Rights Association (SAMPRA) someone should have proof that music playing was bought directly from a valid music store or digital platform. The owner allegedly could not produce such information, Tsotsotso said.
The speakers and sound systems used at the tavern were confiscated by the police.
