‘Human remains’ found in plastic bag
A case of murder has been opened after what is believed to be human remains were found by a passerby in Magaliesburg, Gauteng.
The remains were later taken to the Roodepoort Mortuary for further investigations, and a case of murder will be investigated by the Magaliesburg Police Station.
It is still unknown if the remains are that of a man or a woman.
Last year, skeletal remains were found at the Korsmans Conservancy bird sanctuary in Benoni, on the East Rand.
The remains were discovered by conservancy volunteers, who also found a handbag and a rucksack near the body.
Conservancy chairperson Jane Trembath said the remains were believed to have been at the location for less than three years, as the bones were found next to a tree that had been felled in October 2011.
A police forensics team was later called in to remove the remains.
